Protein Skimmer

Protein skimmer are applied to most saltwater aquarium to remove certain organic compounds, including proteins and amino acids, by using the polarity of the protein itself, from the water to stop most of them decomposing into nitrogenous waste. Because of the intrinsic charge, water-borne proteins are attracted to the air-water interface. Protein skimmers works by infecting numerous tiny bubbles into the water chamber, which present an enormous air-water interface for the protein molecules to cling to. The more tiny bubbles reside in the chamber, the more proteins it absorbs. Protein skimming is one of the effective ways of physical filtration that get rid of the organic compounds before its decomposition, lightening the load on the biological filter and improving the water’s redox potential.

Reef Octopus Skimmers

The Reef Octopus skimmers are powered by the Hailea OTP pumps. They are built with high quality acrylic. The skimmer has a gate valve output which allows for more adjustment of the skimmer compared to ball valves. The collection cup has a quick release neck for easy removal for cleaning. It requires 1/2 inch of clearance to remove the cup. The Octopus skimmers uses metric plumbing parts. The pump has an improved venturi design and pinwheel impeller.  The Hang on Skimmer Series makes assemble and maintenance of the skimmer easy by just hanging the skimmer on the back/side of the tank.

BH-2000 is a larger series of Hang-on Skimmer meant for larger tanks. BH-2000 also uses a larger capacity OTP-2000 pump with higher volume of Air intake for better and faster skimming process.
